Imam’s Unpublished Letter Regarding the Danger of Infiltration of the Perverse Baha’i Sect

[It is addressed] to Ayatollah Haj Seyyed Abdol-Ali Ayatollahi, the grandson of the great and prominent cleric of Larestan of Fars, the late Seyyed Abd al-Husayn Lari, who has been the religious and political leader of the Lar region for more than fifty years, and is loved by high and low, Shiite and Sunni of this region alike. The date of this letter is 21 Rabi 'ath-Thani in 1384 AH [30 August 1964]. But the important letter that the imam addressed to him is about fighting against the Baha’i sect, which was active in all of Iran, especially in the Fars region.

The text of the imam’s letter, which is being published for the first time, is as follows:

“[This is to] convey to Your Excellency that the esteemed letter that indicated your blessed health and expressed your feelings and insight into the situation here, is appreciated. What you have expressed is correct. I thank you for your attention to the channels of affairs, but according to this given matter, however much I meditate on solving the problems of concern, I have not succeeded in doing so. I explained [the problems] to His Honour Agha Mojtaba [Mousavi Lari] for submission to Your Excellency. If a solution comes to your mind, kindly mention it.

“A very big problem that poses a great danger and has the capacity to uproot, Glory be to God Almighty, is the case of the influence of the perverse Baha’i sect, which has infiltrated most of the organizations, on the spoken and known [level], and is becoming more and more widespread. I do not know where their work will end up. I guess that they will start their work soon, openly and with the negligence of the Muslims, to create great sedition and danger. I have sent strong messages to the authorities in this regard and it has been totally denied by them, but we cannot sit [back] with confidence. [My humble thought] is to find a way to reduce their influence; yet we don’t know what the Almighty God has in His plan. If Your Honour has any comments, please let me know, I will appreciate it.”

This letter has no date and the source of both letters is “The Life and Struggles of Ayatollah Haj Seyyed Abdol-Ali Ayatollahi” (Islamic Revolution Document Centre, 1386 [2007]).
