Baha’is of Torbat Heydariyeh

According to the reports, there has been a new incident in the Village of Hesar [situated] eight farsang [leagues] from Torbat Heydariyeh, with a population of some five thousand.

A certain individual, called Haji Khan Shojaei, who is one of the wealthy and influential people of the village, because of his previous conflictive relationship with some of the Baha’is of this village, incited some individuals against them and with the help of a number of ruffians that he had brought from Torbat [Heydariyeh] to Hesar, attacked the homes of the Baha’is and caused them much damage. Then he took some of their women and hanged [animal] bells around their necks and abused them. As a result, some have been injured.

To prosecute the matter, the law enforcement agents took action for their prosecution. Colonel Awhadi and Colonel Mottaghi, the gendarmerie officers from Torbat, have gone to the mentioned district to re-establish law and order. But the weakness of the authorities of the Department of Justice in investigating the incident has caused dissatisfaction and worry among the inhabitants.
