In the Name of God

Your Highness Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi,

Owing to the fact that in the town of Marvdasht (Fars Province), a small number of Baha’is are engaged in keeping shops and the people are socializing and trading with them on a daily basis, we request that you respond to the following questions:

  1. Are the Baha’is Muslims, or are they ungodly and unclean?
  2. What is the verdict on how to greet them and shake hands with them?
  3. What is the verdict on buying things from their shops and selling to them?
  4. Are we allowed to sit at their table and eat the food prepared by this perverse sect?

[Response]

In the Name of God

A- 1 to 4: The members of the perverse sect are not counted as Muslims, and any kind of relationship with them is forbidden, except in cases where there might be some hope of guiding and converting them.

With wishes for your continued success,

All members of the perverse Baha’i sect are condemned to ungodliness and uncleanliness.  You must avoid the food and other things with wet contagion surfaces that they have touched, and it is enjoined upon the believers to fight against the machinations and corruption of this lost sect.
