Nosratollah Vahdat was born into a Baha’i family. He completed his primary school education in Sangsar and at the age of 14 moved to Tehran to continue his studies. After graduating from high school, he entered the Military Academy and was assigned for duty in Kurdistan in 1958. In subsequent years he served in several cities and was finally assigned to Mashhad. Then in 1979 he was transferred to Kermanshah. However, a few months later, after the commencement of the Islamic Revolution, he was dismissed from the army for his adherence to the Faith. He returned to Mashhad.
He was arrested on 23 July 1983 together with his wife. They were detained for 14 days and then released and sentenced to 5 years parole. They were arrested again on 20 October 1983 and imprisoned in Vakilabad prison. He was tortured severely and executed by hanging some months later on 17 June 1984. His body was laid to rest in accordance with Baha’i law. His wife was still in prison at the time of his execution.
