After completing his primary education Naser Vafai moved to Tehran to continue his education and obtained a medical degree from Tehran University. He was employed by the Ministry of Education and spent one year in the town of Bijar and then he transferred to Hamadan where he established his private medical practice. He also dedicated some of his time to teaching at Hamadan’s College of Health Education. In the last ten years of his life, he served as the Head of the Health Division of the Education Department of Hamadan Province. From 1969, he became a member of the Local Spiritual Assembly of Hamadan.
Dr. Vafai was arrested on 9 August 1980 together with other members of the Local Spiritual Assembly of Hamadan. At dawn on 14 June 1981, after months of imprisonment, he was executed by firing squad together with six other members of the Local Spiritual Assembly, Mohammad (Sohrab) Habibi, Mohammad-Bagher (Soheil) Habibi, Hosein Khandel, Tarazollah Khozein, Hosein Motlagh and Firouz Naiemi. Their bodies showed evidence of sever torture before execution. He received a Baha’i burial in the presence of his family in the Baha’i cemetery of Hamadan.
