Mahmoud Forouhar

Executed by firing squad in Karaj, Alborz on 8 May 1982


Mahmoud Forouhar was born into a Baha’i family.  He was an accountant and worked for the National Oil Company in Tehran.  After retiring in 1970 he and his wife pioneered to Gohardasht, Karaj.  They were both members of the Local Spiritual Assembly[1] of Gohardasht.

On 1 August 1981, their home was raided and they were arrested.  Mahmoud was imprisoned in Kanun-i-Javanan prison.  Eshraghiyyeh was taken to a women’s prison in Karaj and later transferred to Kanun-i-Javanan.  Mahmoud was also transferred; he was sent to Qezel-Hesar prison and then back again to Kanun-i-Javanan prison.  On 8 May 1982, after nine months of imprisonment and torture, they were executed by firing squad, together with Badiollah Haghpaykar.  Their bodies were buried in the Baba-Salman cemetery in Karaj by their families and in accordance with Baha’i law.
