21 Shahrivar 1358 [12 September 1979]

Esteemed Governor of Fars Province,

Copy to the esteemed head of the Law Enforcement Office of Fars

Certainly, the law enforcement officers and the officials in charge of security in Shiraz have communicated to you that since 17 Shahrivar [8 September] of this year until noon yesterday, a number of people, whose identities have been given to the prosecutor’s office, have been engaged in demolition of the house of His Holiness, Seyyed Ali Mohammad, the Bab, which is sacred for the Baha’is of the world. Within a few days, they have demolished the house from its foundation and have also started demolishing two other houses. In addition, in several places, they have destroyed and cracked open the walls of adjacent houses, which has caused the Shamshirgarha neighbourhood to become unprotected. It has made the movement of unknown, suspicious and possibly biased individuals possible, and as a result, has caused the lives of the residents of this neighbourhood and its homes [to become] insecure and has subjected them to all sorts of potential dangers. Therefore, we request that you give the necessary instructions to the authorities to prevent illegal actions, and at the same time, and at your discretion, issue orders for security measures and protection of our inalienable rights in order to protect the lives and properties of the residents [of this neighbourhood].
