This morning, Friday, 18/8/1358 [9 November 1979], at 9:30 am, a group of about 200 individuals crowded into the Shamshirgarha Lane and started to destroy the House of His Holiness Seyyed-e Bab. A few armed guards were also present during this episode. The local police station was immediately contacted and informed about the situation, and they sent a few agents. However, it appears that because of interference from the members of the [Islamic Revolutionary] Committee they did not take any action.
Honorable Governor General, two years ago , during the previous regime, first in parts of Khormouj,Sarvestan and Darivan, and later in Shiraz, a large number of homes and places of business of Baha’is were burned down and destroyed, and a large number of people were left wandering and homeless. Appeals made by this community did not have any effect. Now, we had believed that during this time in history of Iran, and according to the great leader of the Revolution, His Excellency Imam Khomeini, the minorities and their properties would remain beyond any harm, and that this community would remain safe from any danger. However, unfortunately, in addition to the confiscation and takeover of the [aforementioned] buildings and the Haziratu'l-Qudsby the [Islamic Revolutionary] Committee and the confiscation and removal of the furniture from the House of the Bab, they have again attempted to destroy this building and its two adjacent homes; once two months ago, and again this morning.
Honorable Governor General, given that for the Baha’is of the world the House of the Bab is a holy place and its destruction is an offence to the hearts of all the Baha’is across the globe, we request that you issue an order for urgent and immediate action to prevent any further destruction and to prosecute the instigators.
