Engineer Mehdi Bazargan, Honourable Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Iran

During our meeting with the representatives of your Honour, we were asked to prevent any provocation of religious sentiment in the people against the Bahá’ís. We [said we would] refrain from openly demonstrating [any Baha’i sentiment] and the representatives of our community gave assurances that in spite of continuous attacks against the Bahá’í sacred places and properties, and other restrictions imposed on this community, we would not take any action and only resort to the Holy Threshold, to show patience, repose and reliance on the justice of the authorities.  The esteemed government representatives were then asked [by our representatives] to reciprocate by issuing orders to prevent instigation of the opponents against the Bahá’ís.  However, with utmost regret we witnessed that recently the Bahá’í National Haziratu’l-Quds[1] was confiscated with great public outcry and uproar.  On the occasion of mid-Sha’ban day, flyers filled with aspersion were printed and distributed.  We request that you issue strict orders to prevent the publication of such provocative false information against this community and to allow the Bahá’í community to respond to such unfounded accusations by using the mass media, including the press to clear up the misunderstandings about this defenceless community.  We strongly hope that the Esteemed Government authorities will demonstrate munificence in dealing with this legitimate request with justice and equity.

With utmost respect,

On behalf of the Bahá’í community of Iran

Dr. Hosein Naji
