Latest News About the Baha’i Prisoners in Iran

New York, (Baha’i International Community News Service)

Following the arrest of 54 members of the Baha’i community in Shiraz on 27 Ordibehesht 1385 [17 May 2006], three detainees still remain in prison. Fifty-one people arrested on that date have been released on bail. It is unclear when the remaining three will be released.

No formal charges have been filed against those who have been released, nor against the three detainees.

On the day of their detention, a Baha’i teenager under the age of 15, as well as several non-Baha’i youths, was arrested along with Baha’is that were released without any bail.

On Wednesday, 24 May, five days after the arbitrary detention of these 54 people, 14 detainees regained their liberty after paying bail of ten million tomans. On 25 May, another 36 Baha’is were released on bail or by submitting their work permits to the court to guarantee their attendance in the court.
