Memories…

…I became distressed and angry at hearing of the appointment of Mansour and Hoveyda. My distress and disappointment were because, even though we have educated and capable youth, and great men and patriotic and experienced personalities, they have chosen such individuals to run the country, neither of whom, from their family line nor by themselves, possess the faintest bright spot in their lives. One is a Baha’i-born clown, who is a follower of Shoghi Effendi, and the other one is illiterate, unpatriotic, defamed and a spy.

Finally, I could not sleep that night due to immense distress. Early next morning I went to one of the printing shops of the Lalehzar [Street] and had an “Extra” printed. Before these were circulated, the “better-than-us” agents came and took them all away, yet they did not arrest me; they only told me that tomorrow [I would] have to go to see the head of the Intelligence Service of Tehran, Colonel Moulavi.

As soon as I was certain that I was not going to be arrested, I cabled a portion of the ‘Extra’ to the defunct shah as follows:

 “To the blessed threshold of His Imperial Majesty. With all my respect, I would like to bring the following submission to His Excellency’s attention. According to what was announced on the radio, Mr. Hasan-Ali Mansour, whose father in Shahrivar 1320 [August/September 1941] betrayed this country and whole-heartedly gave away the beloved country of Iran to the Russians and the British, and as a result of the cowardly attack of the foreign forces thousands of our people became martyrs, has been appointed as the prime minister, and Mr. Gholam Abbas Hoveyda, the son of Eynolmolk the Baha’i, devotee of Shoghi Effendi, has also been appointed to the Ministry of Finance…
