Interview with Minister of Foreign Affairs- Mohammad Javad Zarif about Persecution of Baha’is in Iran on 24 April 2018, denying the Baha’is have been persecuted for their religious beliefs. He said:
“Being a Baha’i is not a crime, we do not recognize somebody as a Bahá’í, “as a religion” That is a belief, somebody can be agnostic, somebody can be an atheist, we do not go and take them to prison because they are atheist. This is a difference you need to make. But being also, being a Baha’i does not immunize somebody from being prosecuted for offences that people may commit.
