Hosein Khandel

Born: 2 May 1943, Hamadan

Executed by firing squad in Hamadan on 14 June 1981


After completing high school, Hosein Khandel began work at his father’s shop in Hamadan.  In later years he opened his own real estate business and was very successful.  He was elected to the Local Spiritual Assembly[1] of Hamadan three months before his arrest and imprisonment.  He was arrested on 12 August 1980, together with other members of the Local Spiritual Assembly of Hamadan. 

Then at dawn on 14 June 1981, he was executed by firing squad, together with six members of the Local Spiritual Assembly, Mohammad-Bagher (Soheil) Habibi, Mohammad (Sohrab) Habibi, Tarazollah Khozein, Hosein  Motlagh, Firouz Naiemi and Naser Vafai.  Their bodies showed evidence of severe torture before execution. They were laid to rest by their families in the Hamadan Baha’i cemetery, in accordance with Bahá’í law.
