Announcements by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Iran

Regarding Elimination of the Encroachments on the [Baha’i] Friends

[To] The Local Spiritual Assemblies, may God strengthen their foundations

Since it has been seen in some provinces that in order to create fear, disturbance and intimidation in the friends in some localities, certain people attempt encroachments on their rights that are totally against explicit national laws, and without any authorization make the Baha’is targets of their attacks, physical violence, insults and humiliations, we request that sacred Assembly to warn the believers residing in your jurisdiction by various methods to:

  1. Avoid any affectation which may provoke the prejudice of the local residents and cause their opposition, in order not to give the prejudiced people any excuse. In all circumstances [the friends], according to their conscientious duties, should be obedient to the national disciplinary regulations.
  2. Personally seek legal prosecution of the aggressors through the police, gendarmerie or judicial system as soon as they are subjected to encroachment on their rights, and to seek guidance from your sacred Assembly in pleading to the local governmental authorities.
  3. Your Assembly should immediately contact Mr. Manouher Ghaem-Maghami, the esteemed member of this Assembly, who is a lawyer in Tehran, by telephone, as well as write to this Assembly to seek legal resolution by the central government authorities.

Of course, it has been and always will be part of the spiritual duties of that sacred Assembly to support and strengthen the spirits of the friends in times of hardship.
