The Questions I Asked the Anti-Baha’i Society Were Initiated by the People
In connection with the speech made by Ayatollah Jannati, the Qom Friday prayer leader and member of the guardian council, regarding the Anti-Baha’i Society, we have recently sat with him for clarification.
Concerning his motive for asking these questions from the Anti-Baha’i Society, Ayatollah Jannati stated, “There has always been a question mark regarding these people, both before the victory of the Revolution and after the victory of the Revolution.”
However, it turned out that pursuing the question was no longer important, with no need to follow up anymore. Following the victory of the Revolution we had little contact with them, but it never felt like an issue that we needed to discuss, until recently. I do not even know why, [but] many questions started to be raised by the people, to the point where among the usual questions we were asked in letters and various media, either telephonically or verbally, one of the questions was this; therefore, we felt that the question was a general question for the entire nation. People had this question [in mind]. In fact, it was the people who initially asked the question. I was not the one who initiated it. This question was the people’s question.
In another part of his speech, Ayatollah Jannati added, “The question regarding them is an official question, which we are usually asked, and this is a major question that has to do with the Velayat Faghih [Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist]. The people’s question revolves mostly around this, and there has to be a decision in relation to this question. It means that they are accused of not accepting the Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist the way others, who follow the line of Imam Khomeini, accept it.
In conclusion, Ayatollah Jannati pointed out that they would eventually have to respond to this question, and it looks like they are preparing to respond. The media must publish their response in order to clarify the matter for the people. Then, should any explanations be necessary, we will chime in.
Details of the interview with Ayatollah Jannati will be published tomorrow.
