The Main Purpose and Philosophy of Unity Week

Continued from page one

…The number of Sunni brothers is quite considerable—not only in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria and the sheikhs around the same Gulf and other important points, but even in our own country.

In such conditions, from the universal and regional points of view (pluralism, dispersion, the wide spread of the Muslims and the Sunni brothers in the Middle-East, Africa, Asia, and especially the neighbouring countries such as Afghanistan, Turkey, Pakistan, Southern part of Russia, India, etc.), and also from the internal point of view (provinces and cities that were pointed out), it is quite natural that imperialism will put its finger on the differences between Shiites and Sunnis.

In this country, in this Revolution and in this region, the dirty goals of imperialism can be achieved by setting up and continuing the intensified religious and sectarian differences and schisms, especially the Shiite-Sunni divide. Here, there is no way or ground for Marxism; the Christians, Jews and Zoroastrians have no problem with the Muslims. Fake and man-made sects such as Babism and Baha’ism are notoriously disgraced, lost and too infamous to benefit from.

Today’s Iran is not the Iran of the Qajar era. Hypocrisy, playing liberalism, and searching for freedom have lost their attraction.

Therefore, a kindling fire must begin somewhere else, [such as the] difference between Shi’a and Sunni. Iran is the centre of the Islamic Revolution and the centre of Shi’ism. Sunni followers are present both within it and in its vicinity. Here is the ripest place for creating differences, and Unity Week concerns this great necessity. It is, in connection with this dangerous point [storage of gunpowder] that Unity Week makes sense and neutralizes it. We have to say it and we will talk about this.
