Letters of His Imperial Majesty [the king] and the Prime Minister to Ayatollah Borujerdi Were Sent to Qom
On behalf of His Imperial Majesty, the response to Ayatollah Borujerdi was issued and it was sent to Qom by one of the high-ranking officers of the court last week. The shah wrote the response to Ayatollah Borujerdi personally and put it in an envelope; after it was sealed, [he] issued the order for it to be sent off. The text of this letter has not yet been revealed, but the writing on the envelope was in the handwriting of the shah. The address to the ayatollah was as follows: (To the presence of His Honour Ayatollah Haj Agha Hossein Tabatabai Borujerdi, may his blessings be prolonged)
This letter was a response to the letter from Ayatollah Borujerdi that he had written to His Majesty two weeks ago. In addition to this letter, the prime minister, [Mr.] Ala, had written a detailed letter to Ayatollah Borujerdi and had mentioned a few issues in it.
Although the content of His Majesty’s and the prime minister’s letters to Ayatollah Borujerdi has not yet been disclosed, Mr. Jafar Behbahani, a member of parliament, told our correspondent, “His Excellency, in addition to this letter to Ayatollah Borujerdi, has written a letter of response to my father, Ayatollah Behbahani, which was enclosed with the letter of [Mr.] Ala, the prime minister, and sent to my father by [Mr.] Alam, the minister of the interior.”
Mr. Jafar Behbahani added that His Excellency had explicitly announced in this letter that the fight against the Baha’is has not ended and will continue and that he would come to realize its results in the near future.
We hope that we will be able to receive the text of the letters from His Majesty and that of the prime minister from Ayatollah Borujerdi and publish it in next week’s issue.
