His Honour Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi, may his blessings continue

With respect, we inform you of the following.  Since the morning of Friday, 18 Aban 1358 [9 November 1979], once again a group, whose leadership is unknown, has, for the second time, attacked the House of His Highness Seyyed Báb, located in Shamshirgarha Lane in Shiraz, and using demolition tools that were prepared in advance, has engaged in destroying and obliterating a place that is not only precious and respected by the Iranian Baha’is, but is also a holy and sacred place for all of the Baha’is in the world who currently live in more than 102,000 localities across the globe.  Given that it appears that the actions to destroy and obliterate this place are being perpetrated by individuals who identify themselves with the sacred religion of Islam, and believe in the teachings of His Holiness, Doyen of Messengers [of God] [Mohammad], may peace be upon Him, we request that you issue urgent orders to prevent continued destruction, which will be conducive to the gratitude of the entire Baha’i community around the world.

With appreciation and respect

From the Baha’i Community of Shiraz
