22 Shahrivar 1358 [13 September 1979]

Engineer Mehdi Bazargan, esteemed Prime Minister

With expressions of humility and respect, pursuant to the two previous telegrams regarding the actions taken to destroy the House of the Báb in Shiraz, which is the object of great adoration and praise for all the Baha’is in Iran and around the world, this community is extremely sad and despondent about this heart-wrenching event.  Therefore, we insistently request that your [honour], in view of your repeated emphasis on preserving and upholding the rights of all levels and minority groups of the country, allow the Revolutionary Guards in Shiraz and other police authorities to put a protective cover on top of the destroyed foundations of this house at the expense of this community, in order to prevent further events. We would be greatly appreciative and grateful.

With expressions of respect,

From the Baha’i Community of Iran

Dr. Hosein Naji,

Manouher Ghaem-Maghami
