Azizollah Golshani

Executed by hanging in Mashhad on 29 April 1982


Azizollah Golshani was born into a Baha’i family. He acquired a degree in Education and worked and pioneered in various cities across Khorasan.  He was elected to the Local Spiritual Assembly[1] of Mashhad in 1980.

On the evening of 26 December 1980, a Molotov Cocktail (petrol bomb) was thrown into his bedroom which resulted in burns to his arm. Later, he received a letter from the Revolutionary Central Committee, indicating that they had some questions to ask him. He was arrested on 19 January 1982, when he voluntarily presented himself in response to their letter. 

He was executed by hanging 100 days later, on 29 April 1982.  His family was not informed of his execution; they learnt of it through the local newspaper 3 days later.  His body was not returned to his family; he may have been buried by the authorities.
