In the Name of God

24 Shahrivar 1370 [15 September 1991]

The Honourable President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Ali-Akbar Rafsanjani

Wishing you ever-increasing success, this person, Zahra Rouhizadegan, 64 plus, and my aged husband of 74, respectfully present our case to Your Highness.  In his younger days, my husband  worked with honesty and faithfulness for 30 years for the Iran Oil Company under the most difficult conditions, in distant places in the worst areas of southern Iran, until 1359 [1981].  He retired on 15 Esfand 1359 [6 March 1981], but his rightful allowance and retirement pay were stopped in the latter part of Ordibehesht 1361 [mid-May 1982] for the sole reason of his being a Baha’i.

For more than nine years, we have been denied retirement compensation. During this time, my husband has earned money by selling cigarettes and other items, but now because of his old age and the ailments associated with it, one being heart problems, he is not able to walk, [so] providing for living expenses is very difficult or impossible, as you well know.

Now that Your Highness has occupied the seat of justice, please see to our case.  Does having a faith other than Islam justify withholding from us my husband’s salary and pension, which the government deducted during his service at the oil company?  In any case, we wish health and long life for you and leave the investigation of this matter to you.

Doesn’t denying an old man, 74, of his rightful compensations question the Islamic justice [system] and the kind of justice you speak of?  Your speech is always open and clear, so please demonstrate the truth of this matter as well.

Beseeching God’s confirmations,

Zahra Rouhizadegan, spouse of Abbas-Ali Zareian Jahromi, worker number [redacted], pipelines and telecommunications zone of Shiraz.
