Home Search and Arrests of Vahid Dana and Saied Abedi, Baha’i Citizens in Shiraz

HRANA News Agency – Following the arrest and search of the homes of a number of Baha’i citizens in Shiraz on Wednesday, 8 Ordibehesht [28 April 2021], two Baha’i citizens, Vahid Dana and Saeed Abedi, were arrested by intelligence agents at their private homes. Seven other Baha’i citizens arrested on 17 Farvardin [6 April 2021] are still being held in solitary confinement in a state of uncertainty in Shiraz security detention centers for twenty-three days.

According to HRANA, the News Agency of Human Rights Activists in Iran, on Wednesday 8 Ordibehesht 1400 [28 April 2021], following the arrest and search of the homes of a number of Baha’i citizens in Shiraz, Vahid Dana and Saied Abedi, Baha’i citizens living in Shiraz, were arrested by intelligence agents at their private homes.

At the time of their arrest, officers searched the homes of these citizens and confiscated some of their personal belongings, including cell phones, personal computers, and a number of their books, works, and pictures related to the Baha’i Faith. These citizens are currently being held in the detention center of the Intelligence Office, called No. 100.

Previously, on 17 Farvardin [6 April], seven Baha’is in Shiraz, Saied Ettehad, Ghasem Masoumi, Siamak Honarvar, Soroush Abadi, Sedigheh Aghdasi, Aliyyeh Foroutan and Behrouz Farzandi Ardekani, were arrested in Shiraz after security forces searched their homes and confiscated a number of their personal belongings. These citizens are still in detention and in a state of uncertainty twenty-three days after their arrest.

Soroush Abadi is detained at the Intelligence detention center called No. 100 and Behrouz Farzandi and Ghasem Masoumi are in one of the Intelligence detention centre of Sipah[1]. Also, Saied Ettehad, Siamak Honarvar, Sedigheh Aghdasi, and Aliyyeh Foroutan have been detained by IRGC intelligence in solitary confinement in Shiraz police station No. 201 since their arrest.

Vahid Dana and Saied Abedi have already been arrested and convicted in their cases. On 28 Mordad 1397 [19 August 2018], Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Shiraz sentenced each of these citizens in absentia without the knowledge of their lawyers and defendants to one year in prison and one year in exile. This sentence was reduced by Branch 17 of the Fars Court of Appeals to six months in prison for each. These citizens finally faced inexecution of their prison sentence, on 22 Bahman [11 February 2019], with a conditional pardon.
