Hojjatol-Islam Moghtadaei, the spokesperson of the Supreme Judicial Council, announced that by preparation of the Circular of General Clemency and its presentation to the presence of the imam of the people, nation-wide groups of prisoners will be freed on the occasion of 22 Bahman [11 February]

While announcing this news, Hojjatol-Islam Moghtadaei, a member and the spokesperson of the Supreme Judicial Council, in a press, radio and television interview, added that due to the approaching anniversary of the day [of God]… 22 Bahman [11 February], on behalf of the Supreme Judicial Council, the contents of the directive regarding those individual prisoners who will be granted clemency has been prepared and will be taken as a suggestion to the presence of His Honour, the Grand Ayatollah Imam Khomeini, the leader of the Islamic Revolution, so that after his approval, the instruction will be communicated to all the courts throughout the country.

He also said, “In all the Iranian judiciary courts, no one has been accused and imprisoned because of being a Baha’i, and those Baha’is who possibly are in the prisons, it is because they all have perpetrated general wrongdoings that have received appropriate punishments, according to their offences”.

Mr. Moghtadaei added that the quality of performance and duties assigned to the judicial police that is established at the airport was one of the issues discussed and decided upon this week at the Supreme Judicial Council.
