The Sixth Anniversary of the Imprisonment of the Leaders of the Baha’i Community

On the sixth anniversary of the imprisonment of the leaders of the Baha’i community, Nasrin Sotoudeh, Narges Mohammadi, Jila Baniyaghoob, Masoumeh Dehghan, Esmail Abdi, Nasser Ashjari, Mohammad Nourizad, Issa Saharkhiz, Dr. Mohammad Maleki, Ayatollah Masoumi Tehrani and Shahnaz Mostafi Karim Beigi (mother of Mostafa Karim Beigi) met with the families of these Baha’i prisoners.

Jila Baniyaghoob wrote on Facebook, “Six years have passed since the day Fariba Kamalabadi and Mahvash Shahriari (my former cellmates in Evin Prison) were imprisoned, Fariba is a person with a strong spirit, full of energy for life and full of peace and patience and was and is the support for many of those imprisoned with her.

Mahvash is full of love and affection and showed herself to all of us like a kind mother, a patient listener to hear the sufferings and pains of others.

Mahvash and Fariba are both mothers and have both been incarcerated for six years, without a day off, and all of their children get to visit them for twenty minutes a week. I and many others were released from Evin and they are still there and no one knows how many more years they will have to stay in prison. Is the ruling of 20-year sentence of these Baha’i mothers really going to be carried out!?

On such a day six years ago, they were arrested along with five other members of Yaran-e Iran [Friends in Iran] (Afif Naimi, Saied Rezaie, Behrouz Tavakkoli, Vahid Tizfahm, Jamaloddin Khanjani) who are also still in prison without leave.”
