Tehran: The disappearance of Mr. Shahram Hasim after being summoned to the Ministry of Intelligence

Latest news from Iran:

On 27 Ordibehesht 1388 [17 May 2009], the Ministry of Intelligence contacted Mr. Shahram Hasim to present himself the next day to the Ministry of Intelligence’s Centre for Religious Minorities on Vahdat-e Eslami Street. Because Mr. Hasim had not received a written summons, he did not report to the office. The next day he was contacted again as to why he had not presented himself. After he explained the reason for not presenting himself, he was told that he would receive a summons.

On 29 Ordibehesht 1388 [19 May 2009], Mr. Hasim left home, and after the last phone call he made to his family that morning, he was no longer heard from, and it appears that his cell phone was switched off. Mr. Hasim’s wife contacted the Ministry of Intelligence about her husband’s disappearance and inquired after him, but she was told that “if he had come at the time we called, we would have been responsible for him, but now we do not accept any responsibility.”
