On the charge of treason against the Islamic nation of Iran

Yazd – Kayhan reporter – By order of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Yazd, 7 Baha’i men were sentenced to death on charges of espionage and treason against the Islamic nation of Iran and at dawn on 17 Shahrivar [8 September] (yesterday) were [all] executed by firing squad in Yazd.

A statement regarding the foregoing was published on behalf of the Islamic Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office of Yazd.

The statement is as follows:

“Fight ye the chiefs of Unfaith” [Quran 9:12]

The Islamic Revolution of Iran attained victory with the assistance of God and under the leadership of Imam Khomeini and with the help of the blood of hundred thousand martyrs and this humble nation However, its continuity is the responsibility of all the Muslims of the world and specifically the champion and warrior nation of Iran. Therefore, this upraised nation, in a country that is the cradle of Islam and governed under the Quran, will not allow and no longer remains indifferent to abased individuals who trample upon the pure blood of the martyrs and who serve the occupying Israel and America and commit treason against Islam and the Quran.

Therefore, in view of the increasing complaints of the nation; and a petition on which more than thousands of signatures was presented to the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Yazd; and according to existing history and Sharia and legal duty, the case of the 7 individuals who were spies with the purpose of directly serving foreigners against the government of the Islamic Revolutionary of Iran; as well as ample evidence of those [facts] in the reports issued by the office of the Islamic Revolution Documentation Centre of Iran that clearly identified the [Local] Assembly of the Baha’is of Yazd as an agency of espionage; and hundreds of other reasons that exist in the file: the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Yazd investigated and issued the Sharia order calling for  the seven accused to be executed. The Court Order was carried out at dawn today (yesterday) so that on the seventeenth of Shahrivar [8 September], which is the anniversary of the martyrs of the Black Friday of Tehran, with this Revolutionary action the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Yazd, while sending greetings to the souls of those pure high-spirited who lovingly offered their lives for the suppression of the tyrannical Pahlavi Regime and with their blood watered the sacred Islamic Revolution of Iran, gives an affirmative response to the sacrificed made by the blood of the pure martyrs and warns the enemies of Islam and Iran that dear Iran will no longer fall within the reach of foreign [powers] and will react decisively towards the enemies of Islam.

  1. Azizollah Zabihian, son of Asadollah, 56 years old
  2. Fereidoun Faridani, son of Goshtasb, 58 years old
  3. Nourollah Akhtar-Khavari, son of Kaykhosrow, 61 years old
  4. Abdol-Vahhab Kazemi[-Manshadi], son of Hosein, 85 years old
  5. Jalal Mostaghim, son of Abdol-Vahhab, 52 years old
  6. Mahmoud Hasanzadeh, son of Mohammad, 41 years old
  7. Ali Motahhari, son of Hasan, 44 years old
