Subject: Military Service of Baha’i draftees

Directive number: P402/02/93/78, 18/02/1359 [8 May 1980] of the Ministry of Defence, noting that the rationale for national compulsory military service is distinct from that of employment in the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic.  Accordingly, Baha’is who have been drafted are not subject to the [section of] the Employment Act [which prohibits employment of] those who are not adherents of one of the officially recognized religions (Islam, Zoroastrianism, Judaism, and Christianity).   [Baha’is] can therefore serve [in the military forces] and will be subject to the same army regulations as other conscriptees.
