In The Private Session of the National Consultative Assembly

At the beginning of the private session, Seyyed Ahmad Safaei stated, “You all know that there is a group in the country with a special belief, called the Baha’i sect, who are engaged in harmful activities in the country.” He gave a detailed explanation in this regard. Then several representatives, including Mr. Shushtari, Dr. Jazayeri, Nooruddin Emami [Khoi], and Pirasteh [Seyed Mehdi Pirasteh, representative of Saveh], made statements in this regard and discussions revolved around a plan which was set up to outlaw the Baha’is …

The speaker of the Assembly stated: “... Of course, in line with the issue that has recently taken an upsurge in the country, we also strongly agree with the people in suppressing this group of irreligious people.”

... Mr. Nooruddin Emami stated, “If you pay attention to the history of the emergence of Baha’ism in Iran, then it will become clear which government has chosen this fake religion and for what purpose...

…Mr. Ministers; I believe that the constitution has defined the duty of the respective beliefs, except for the Armenians, Jews and Zoroastrians—in other words, the holy religion of Islam is the official religion of Iran, and other than those three groups, anyone who claims otherwise will be severely punished or even be executed...”

Mr. Entezam, the deputy prime minister, stated:

“I also fully agree with the gentlemen representatives of the Assembly that the sect in question is a perverse sect, which has been created in our country, but the general policy of the country is also an issue that should be taken into consideration and all you gentlemen are in agreement with us that, in such matters, paying attention to the peripheral aspects surrounding the issue is necessary.”
