Increasing numbers of Baha’i citizens detained in Baharestan, Isfahan

HRANA News Agency – Following the search of homes and the detention of seven Baha’i citizens in the city of Baharestan in Isfahan, another Baha’i citizen was arrested on Sunday as the eighth Baha’i citizen arrested by the forces of the Ministry of Intelligence in this city.

According to the HRANA news agency, the news organ of the Iranian Association of Human Rights Activists, on Sunday, 1 Mehr 1397 [23 September 2018], Mr. Saham Armin, a Baha’i citizen living in Baharestan, Isfahan, was arrested at his home by the city’s security forces.

Taking into account the arrest of Mr. Saham Armin, the number of Baha’i citizens arrested on Sunday 1 Mehr [23 September] in the city of Baharestan in Isfahan reached eight.

Yesterday, HRANA had reported, the arrest of seven Baha’i citizens, Afshin Bolbolan, Afshin Bolbolan, Milad Davardan, Farhang Sahba, Bahareh Zaini (Sobhanian), Sepideh Rowhani, and Foujan Rashidi by the security forces in Baharestan, Isfahan.

At the time of writing the reasons for the detention and whereabouts of these Baha’i citizens are not known.

Earlier, a source close to the Baha’i citizens confirmed the news to HRANA, “At the time of Mr. Afshin Bolbolan’s arrest, the security agents searched his home and confiscated a number of his personal belongings, including his books, laptop, tablet and mobile phone, and took them away.”

In recent weeks, Baha’i citizens in various cities across the country have come under increasing pressure from Iran’s security and judicial institutions.

On 25 Shahrivar 1397 [16 September 2018], four Baha’i citizens named Maryam Ghaffarmanesh, Jamileh Pakrou (Mohammad Hosein), Kianoush Salmanzadeh and Payman Manavi were arrested in Karaj and transferred to Evin Prison. Six other Baha’i citizens named Soudabeh Haghighat, Noura Pourmoradian, Navid Bazmandegan Bahareh Ghaderi (wife of Navid Bazmandegan), Elaheh Samizadeh, and Ehsan Mahboube-Rahe-Vafa were arrested by the Shiraz security forces on 24 and 25 Shahrivar [15 and 16 September 2018].

The city of Baharestan is located twenty km southeast of Isfahan, on the Isfahan-Shiraz Road.
