Home Search and Detention of Manijeh Azamian, A Baha’i Citizen in Babol

HRANA News Agency – On Tuesday, 24 Farvardin [13 April], Manijeh Azamian, a Baha’i citizen living in Babol, was arrested by the city's intelligence service and released from prison one day later on bail. Four days before her arrest, the security forces searched Ms. Azamian’s home and confiscated some of her personal belongings, including cell phones, computer hard drives, flash drives, as well as pictures, books, and works related to the Baha’i Faith.

According to the HRANA news agency, the news organ of the Iranian Association of Human Rights Activists, on Tuesday, 24 Farvardin 1400 [13 April 2021], Manijeh Azamian, a Baha’i citizen living in Babol, was arrested by the city’s intelligence agents and released on 50 million tomans bail from Babol Prison a day later.

A few days before her arrest on 21 Farvardin [13 April], the security forces searched Ms. Azamian’s (Ighani) home and confiscated some of her personal belongings, including cell phones, computer hard drives, flash drives, as well as pictures, books, and works related to the Baha’i Faith.

After searching Ms. Azamian’s home, the officers asked her to report herself to the Babol Intelligence Office that afternoon for questioning. After the home search and until her arrest, on several occasions, this Baha’i citizen was interrogated for several hours by the intelligence agents.

A source close to Ms. Azamian’s family told HRANA, “After confiscating Ms. Azamian’s cell phone, the intelligence agents called a number of her cell phone numbers. Among them, at least three non-Baha’i families who were friends and neighbors were summoned and interrogated regarding their relationship with this citizen.”

Manijeh Azamian is a 52-year-old Baha’i citizen living in Babol.
