At 11:00 a.m. on 17 Shahrivar [8 September] of the current year [1979], a number of residents of Shiraz, accompanied by influential authorities and armed police, arrived fully prepared at the House of the Bab in Shiraz, a place that is sacred to the followers of the Baha’i Faith in 96,000 localities around the world, and destroyed it, devastating the hearts of these defenceless people, who have no recourse but to turn to the Compassionate God.

Let it be known with certainty to those who prescribed such shameful injustice, to the satisfaction of their most hideous fanaticism against a helpless minority, that this flagrant act of injustice will be recorded in the annals of history, and that although these heart-broken victims will not resort to any action except supplication to the threshold of the Almighty, the Merciful, the Compassionate, they are confident that the flame of love and faith will blaze more resplendent in their aching hearts. Moreover, the stain of such disgraceful injustice will never be wiped off the foreheads of its perpetrators. The oppressed and wronged Baha’is are highly alarmed and feel their community to be in grave danger, since this Holy Place was previously confiscated under the pretext of protection, and has now been destroyed.

Please issue an immediate directive for the prosecution of the instigators and perpetrators and the return of the property.

On behalf of the Baha’i community of Iran

Dr. Hosein Naji

Manouher Ghaem-Maghami
