This is to respectfully inform you that, since the maintaining of order and security in the country has been entrusted to that capable authority, and your efforts to order the adjudication of the rights of the Baha’i community of Iran on different occasions are greatly appreciated, it seems appropriate for the administration of justice that the justice enforcement officers exert their utmost effort and sacrifice, in good faith, to protect the rights of the public and different communities, and not allow the aggressors to infringe on the undeniable rights of individuals.

Unfortunately, it has been observed that law enforcement officials have not shown the necessary kindness and mercy in protecting the rights of the Baha'i community in Iran over the past few months.

For example, on 17, 18 and 19 Shahrivar [8, 9 and 10 September] a number of opportunists raided and destroyed the House of the Bab in Shiraz―which is considered a holy spot for His followers in more than 102,000 localities of the world and a point of adoration for the people of Baha―by previous arrangement, and having prepared sufficient equipment with the help of influential local people and officials, and saddened the hearts of the Baha’is around the world with this blatant cruelty and injustice. They have, additionally, during the past few months, in Arak, Abadeh, Sangsar, Ajabshir, Kerman, Najafabad, Yazd and a few other cities, completely destroyed other [Baha’i] holy places, the Baha’i gathering centres, and even the cemeteries, after evicting their custodians and residents, who were destitute individuals.

Sadly, in these localities, the law enforcement officials did not provide the required assistance, and because these places have been occupied by the relevant authorities due to confiscation and protection, unfortunately, they have not been protected. There is no reason to have seized these places; therefore, we request that Your Honour order and instruct the authorities to return all the mentioned properties and institutions to us, so that this community can calmly take care of them and maintain them.

Respectfully,

On behalf of the Baha’i Community of Iran

Dr. Hosein Naji

Manouher Ghaem-Maghami
