Dated: 31 Shahrivar 1358 [22 September 1979]

To His Holiness Ayatollah Imam Khomeini, Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran

Respectfully, we would like to inform you that during the events of the months of Azar and Dey [November, December and January] of last year, the Baha’is of Fars, Azerbaijan, Hamadan and other cities were subject to notorious oppressions, reports of which you received personally in Paris, and you severely condemned the perpetrators [and instructed them] to stop such transgressions. Since the Revolution, although this community has proven both verbally and in action their obedience to and compliance with the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, unfortunately, the same oppressions have been recurring.

Following baseless accusations and aspersions, armed individuals have repeatedly attacked this community’s organizations, taken away their papers, documents and archives, then forcefully confiscated all historical and sacred properties related to this community, including the Misaghieh Hospital, which also belongs to them. Recently, on 17, 18 and 19 Shahrivar [8,9 and 10 September] of this year, a group of opportunists, with prior preparation and sufficient equipment, accompanied by local authorities, attacked the House of His Holiness the Bab in Shiraz, which is held sacred by His followers in over 102,000 localities all over the world, and is considered a place to be circumambulated by the people of Baha, and demolished it. This notorious oppression broke the hearts of all Baha’is.

In addition to the aforementioned House, during recent months, in Arak, Abadeh, Sangsar, Ajabshir, Kerman, Najafabad, Yazd and a few other localities, the Bahá’í holy places and their gathering centres, even their cemeteries, have been deliberately demolished. Complaints against these injustices to the authorities have had no effect. Since Your Holiness would not tolerate such oppressions in the government of Islamic Justice and Republic, perhaps such events were not reported to you; therefore, we are seeking justice this way and urge you to order the restoration of all aforementioned properties and organizations, so that the members of this community may keep and protect them with wisdom and serenity.

With utmost respect,

On behalf of the Bahá’í Community of Iran

Dr. Hosein Naji

Manouher Ghaem-Maghami
