Tir 1372 [June/July 1993]

His Holiness Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Revolution,

With utter sorrow, grief and abhorrence, we were informed that some individuals, devoid of the fear of God, have inhumanely and in utmost disrespect, recently removed corpses and bones from the beautiful graves in the Baha’i cemetery, discarding them in an unknown location.

We are deeply saddened by this treacherous act of savagery which is beyond human conception, against our coreligionists, disturbing their eternal peace.  We ask your honourable authority to urgently intervene by issuing a strict and urgent order to prevent this inhuman violation, which is against the divine and sacred principle of Islamic Sharia, and stop the construction of the Khavaran Cultural Foundation in this unlawfully appropriated property on the grounds of the Baha’i cemetery, and to allow the Baha’i cemetery to remain in the possession of its rightful owners and continue to exist as one of the most beautiful gardens in the south of Tehran.

We wish to thank you in advance for your attention to this spiritual and humane matter and plead at the threshold of the Merciful God to bestow upon you a long life and success in your endeavours to lead the ignorant people to the Divine Teachings.

With respectful greetings,

Baha’i community of Azerbaijan
