United Nation (Reuter). – Seven members of Iran's Baha'i religious minority were executed at dawn yesterday in Hamadan, southwest of Teheran, a spokesman for the Baha’i international community said yesterday.
They were buried at a funeral attended by some 2,000 mourners, according to spokesman Gerald Knight.
Knight said his information came from sources inside Iran.
They brought to 42 the number of Baha'is known to have been executed in Iran since October 1979, while 12 others had been assassinated and 14 had disappeared, he said.
The charges against the seven were not immediately known.
In previous cases they had included espionage, Zionism, and activity on behalf of the Baha'i faith. The Baha'i world headquarters is located in Haifa.
