Explanation of the Director General of the Justice Administration Regarding the Convicted Baha’is in Golestan

Gorgan - IRNA - The director general of the Justice Administration of Golestan said, “Some foreign media are trying to influence the court’s decision by highlighting an ordinary judicial case in the courts of this province.”

On Wednesday, Hadi Hashemian told IRNA, “In the past, a number of Baha’is have been arrested in this province and have been sentenced in the preliminary court.”

He added, “Some foreign media outlets, whose anti-Iranian stance is known to the whole world, are trying to influence the way the verdict is passed in favour of the defendants by highlighting and repeating [biased] news in support of the convicted Baha’is.”

According to him, the defendants have protested the verdict issued by the lower court, which is being considered in the court of appeals, and the foreign media have used this opportunity to apply pressure and vote in their favour.

He did not specify the number of defendants or the details of their sentences, but foreign media had previously reported the arrest of 24 Baha’is living in several towns in Golestan Province, who were sentenced to a total of 193 years in prison.

It is said that the detainees have been charged with propaganda and activities against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
