An Explanation

The Honourable Manager of Bamdad Newspaper,

[I] would like to respectfully inform you that, in issues number 78, dated 17 Mordad 1358 [8 August 1979) and 79, dated 18 Mordad 1358 [9 August 1979] of Bamdad newspapers, two pages of the book, “Iran: The Revolution in the Name of God”, about the Babi and Baha’i [religions] were published, the content of which was not correct. Therefore, within the following lines I will rectify them.

1- To connect Babism and Bahaism to the external and internal governments is merely a groundless accusation and its purpose is to instigate hatred amongst the people of Iran against the Baha’is; otherwise, even those responsible for spreading these accusations know well that “Baha’i and all the Baha’is of the world” are the ensigns of eradication of all ignorant prejudices. Baha’is have never had any alliance with Zionism, neither [have they] been affiliated with any government or political system. Everybody is aware of the fact that in 1853 the two governments of Iran and the Ottoman [Empire] together sent His Holiness Baha’u’ddin [Baha’u’llah] into exile from Iran to the states under the dominance of the Ottoman Empire for a period of forty years, meaning until the end of his life. He was kept in captivity there and finally Baha’u’ddin’s [Baha’u’llah’s] body in (1892) and the body of his son, Abdu’l-Baha, (in 1921), were laid to rest there. Also, the remains of the Bab, owing to the impossibility of their resting in Iranian soil, were moved and rested there after sixty years (1909). Therefore, the only reason for connection of all Baha’is of the world with the two cities of Haifa and Acre is that the shrines of the three sacred Souls are in that land, just as Muslims, Christians and Jews have sacred holy places on Israeli soil. It must be explained that; these three Souls were laid to rest in Haifa and Acre at the time of the Palestinian governance, long before the establishment of the government of Israel on that land, and years before the establishment of the government of Israel, the Baha’i holy places were exempted from the payment of taxes.

2- To avoid lengthy conversation, I refrain from mentioning other mistakes in the translation of the mentioned book.

Respectfully,

Hooshang Mahmoodi
