The Egyptian Press Speaks of Iran’s Religious Gatherings of Tasua and Ashura [9th and 10th Days of the month of Muharram]

... Al-Akhbar Newspaper, which has published pictures of the mourning ceremonies of Khamis Al-Aba [the title of Imam Hossein] in Tehran, writes:

“This year, the Shiites in Iran held a glorious and elaborate mourning ceremony for Imam Hussein (PBUH) in Tehran and other cities. During the religious prayers, despite the excitement of the crowd in the mosques and pulpits and the commotions of the people, not the slightest incident happened to disturb the public order and security.

“While, some time ago, due to the awakening and revival of the differences between the Muslims of Iran and the perverted Baha’i sect, it was expected that the biased people would use the opportunity during the days of Tasua and Ashura and incite people against Baha’is. Also, elements of the disbanded Tudeh Party, who demonstrate in favour of Dr. Mossadegh, may use these huge gatherings, and, under the guise of mourning, accomplish their goals. However, the vigilance and speed of action of General Bakhtiar, the military ruler of Tehran, completely took away this opportunity from the rioters and anarchists because a few days before the Tasua and Ashura, [General] Bakhtiar, instructed  by His Majesty the Shah of Iran, especially to maintain order and peace in these days of mourning, went secretly to Qom and met with His Holiness Ayatollah Borujerdi, the Shiite leader of the world.

“General Bakhtiar requested the presence of Ayatollah Borujerdi to order the religious preachers and orators to refrain from mentioning matters that would cause incitement and disorder, in order to prevent chaos and bloodshed among the Muslims…

“His Majesty the Shah of Iran, who himself participated in the mourning ceremony of Hussein bin Ali (PBUH) in Tehran, was extremely satisfied with the order and tranquility during these days.”
