…The Government’s spokesperson, in response to the question of a reporter who asked, “What is your opinion regarding the lies of one of the Western journals, which claimed that Baha’is are being executed in Iran?” responded, “Based on our belief and according to the constitution of our country, not only do we not execute the Baha’is for the mere fact of their being Baha’i, we do not even kill the Communists because of [their] belief in Communism. Yet, whoever acts against the interests of the Islamic Republic and the revolutionary people of Iran will be prosecuted and punished according to the law.”

He added, “We do not allow those who receive monies from Israel and engage in espionage in Iran to live, and we will rise up against them and confront them severely. It does not matter for us whether they are Muslims or Baha’is. We will confront decisively and sternly whoever takes arms against the people of Iran. It is for the same reason that, here in Iran, we have executed those who spied for the Soviets, for the Americans and for Israel. Now, whoever acts against the interests of the Muslim people of Iran will definitely be punished, no matter how numerous they are. We do not refrain from employing punishment. But we strongly deny that we have executed anyone just because of being Baha’i”.

Regarding this accusation, at the end he said, “Such claims are the propaganda of Zionists against the reputation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, [and] we believe such propaganda will not have any effect on the Mostazafin [downtrodden] of the world.
