Subject: Imam Khomeini’s Position Concerning “Chador.”[1]

Beirut- French News Service, published in Beirut by al-Safir newspaper

Imam Khomeini said at another point:  “The Shah favoured the religious minorities to the detriment of the Muslims.”  He added, “Why did they abolish the ceremony of taking an oath on the exalted Quran in the military? In order to give the Baha’is and the Jews the opportunity to take up officer positions and insult the Muslims.”

The leader of the Shiites of the world added:  “The Shah also abolished the requirement to be a Muslim to be allowed to apply for public office in order to benefit the Jews and the Baha’is.  Was this not a provocative action against the 35 million Muslims in the country?  Surely, he knew that the number of Jews in Iran is not larger than seventy thousand, and the number of Baha’is does not exceed fifty thousand.  In this way, the spies for Israel were able to occupy many important positions.  The economy of the country was in their hands and they were the ones who planned the affairs of the government and trained the military.  They were working in agricultural fields and our country would send study groups to Israel.”
