Traditional Islam Is Founded on Republicanism, Democracy and Socialism. Hasan Sadr”

The Role of Ayatollah Khomeini and Seyyed Jamaloddin Asadabadi in Eastern Islamic Liberation

I read eagerly the letter that Mr. Mostafa Rahimi, the legal expert and a scholarly author, had written to Ayatollah Khomeini, published in Ayandegan Newspaper. This letter, which was written with utmost veracity, sincerity and moral courage, led me to aim at and assure the intellectuals and thinkers—whose present voice is [reflected in] the letter of Mr. Rahimi—that, far from exaggeration and flattery, from what I have understood of the statements, addresses, speeches, interviews and other valuable works of the nation’s supreme leader, God has granted this exceptional man such a faculty of reflection, all-embracing vision, and foresight that he would never spare time for the orthodox and fanatic individuals or groups to formalize ways, methods and rites out of the concept of the Islamic Republic or Islamic government, which, indeed, is one of the most advanced intellectual, political and social ideologies. This would require imposing their own views, [and/or] suppression of minds, and repression of the opinions and thoughts of the elites and the thinkers.

I am disappointed that youth, the educated, and world thinkers know so little about Islam’s vision and Islamic teachings….The Ayatollah stated in a message that, “Not only [will I] protect the People of the Book from harassment, but [will] also avoid harassing the Baha’is, so long as they are not into conspiracy and sedition; and [will] defend them in instances of harassment by rioters”.

I see Ayatollah Khomeini with an empowered mind and soul, purity of faith, magnanimity and immensity of heart, taking great steps [toward the] freedom of oriental Islam from Western imperialism and dictatorship, and, God willing, leading an Islam unique to the Muslim people of Iran through this tortuous path with prosperity and pride.
