Conditions Announced for Clemency of Prisoners in Honour of the “Ghorban” Celebrations
Tehran – The Islamic Republic News Service: Individuals who are sentenced in public courts, revolutionary courts, and judicial departments of the military forces and are serving a prison sentence will be given amnesty under certain conditions.
In addition to presenting the foregoing news, Ayatollah Sayyad Mohammad Mousavi-Bojnourdi, stated: “In accordance with the agreement of his highness, Grand Ayatollah Montazari, all of the individuals whose court sentences were fixed prior to the Ghorban celebrations (25 Mordad 1365 [16 August 1986]), will either be set free, or their sentences will be reduced.
The acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court also stated: “Based on this instruction, which has been issued to all public courts, revolutionary courts, and judicial departments of the military forces, all individuals sentenced to [terms of] imprisonment -- with the exception of those who are guilty of joining anti-revolution groups, importers, makers, and distributors of illicit drugs, active members of the perverse [Baha’i] sect, and spies, those convicted of sexual assault, professional hustlers, and those who were involved in armed robbery, embezzlement, and kidnappers - will be granted clemency and will be released from prison under order of his highness, Grand Ayatollah Montazari- may God perpetuate his life.
