On Behalf of the Director of the Supreme Courts

In Honour of the Festival of Qorban, the Conditions for Amnesty and Mitigation of Prisoners’ Punishment Were Announced.

Prisoners of the public, revolutionary and martial courts, according to certain rules and regulations, will be released as a result of clemency.

Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Mousavi-Bojnourdi, while announcing this news, said, “[With] the approval of His Holiness, the Grand Ayatollah Montazari, all those who have been condemned by [various] courts and their sentences decided by the Festival of Qorban – 25 Mordad 1365 [16 August 1986], will be freed, or their sentences will be reduced”.

The director of the Supreme Court also said that, according to this decree, which has been circulated to all offices of the revolutionary prosecutors, courts, and the justice department of the armed forces, all those sentenced to imprisonment, except the counter-revolutionary groups and importers, the main producers and distributers of narcotics, the influential members of the perverse sect [Baha’i], secret agents, the perpetrators of sexual assault [rape], professional defrauders, armed robbers, embezzlers, bribers, abductors/kidnappers, will be subject to the pardon decree of His Honour, Grand Ayatollah Montazari, and will be freed from prison.
