Punishment of two Baha’is for not attending Ashura ceremony
Latest news from Iran
Mr. Foad Naimi and Mr. Feizollah Rowshan, who are currently in Sari Prison, were insulted, humiliated and punished by prison officials for not attending the Ashura ceremony. Prison officials pressured them to attend the ceremony, and because the two Baha’is refused, their heads were shaven at the behest of the prison warden. Mr. Rowshan, while he was spending a year in exile in Damghan, was sentenced to six months in prison on 6 December 2008 (16 Azar 1387) and was transferred to Sari Prison. Mr. Naimi, too, a member of a group of Baha’is who cared for the local Baha’i community, was convicted of “activity in the Baha’i sect” and sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison and then to two years in exile in a small town in Fars Province.
