Beloved Prime Minister of the Islamic Revolutionary Government

With humility, the Baha’i Community considers no shelter or protection for itself, other than the one God, except for the authorities, we inform you of the following: the Baha’i Community has existed in this country for over a century and after a review of their religious teachings and commandments, any fair-minded person would attest to their purity of motive, their loyal obedience to the government, and their dedication to serving the government and the people.  Additionally, they hold the luminous religion of Islam to be true and they also believe in the divine mission of the Seal of the Prophets [Mohammad] and His Pure Progeny.  With little effort, they would agree that it cannot be other than this, and that [the Baha’is] are completely free from interference in political affairs, especially from foreign political and anti-government entities.  They are not affiliated with any foreign government or country and have no connection to them.

Unfortunately, the Baha’is have been the subject of deprivation and discrimination in the past, about which there is no question.  Now, in the recent great Revolution, with its goal of attaining freedom for each and every member of the Iranian community, we observe that some newspapers and media have made certain false accusations and hurled slander against this community which has incited dangerous sentiments in some opposing and naive individuals.  With confidence in the regime and government of Islamic justice, the sun of which is now rising, we hope that you will take action to alleviate these attacks and dangers and the people of the Baha’i community can continue their loving service to humanity with sincerity and enthusiasm.  In view of the lofty unity of goal, which is the message of the esteemed leader of the country, his highness Grand Ayatollah Imam Khomeini, my his blessings continue, we hope to obtain equal rights with all others in the country in all cases and under all conditions.

With expressions of most sincere respect

From the Baha’i Community of Abadeh,

Hedayatollah Dehghani, Dr. Mehdi Anvari,
