Isfahan: Attack on Najafabad Cemetery and Denying Permission for the Burial of a Baha’i There
Latest news from Iran:
The municipal officials of Najafabad, following a previous report on 19 Shahrivar 1388 (10 September 2009) concerning covering the Najafabad Baha’i Cemetery with dirt, closed the street leading to the Baha’i cemetery with an embankment approximately ten metres high, thus preventing the Baha’is from entering [the cemetery].
In addition, a report indicates that permission to bury Azizollah Sobhi, a Baha’i from Najafabad who died on 23 Shahrivar 1388 (14 September 2009), has not been granted to the Baha’is of that city. The hospital has apparently informed Mr. Sobhi’s family that his body would be discharged only with the permission and in the presence of an official from the Ministry of Intelligence. The Ministry of Intelligence subsequently announced that such permission would be granted provided Mr. Sobhi was not buried in the Baha’i cemetery in Najafabad. To this day [2 October 2009], Mr. Sobhi has not been buried.
