Married with two children, Mr. Ataollah Rezvani was an engineer and expert of water and sewer purifying systems in Bandar Abbas.  Because of his belief in the Baha’i Faith, as a young man, he was expelled from his engineering studies at university.  He nonetheless came to be regarded as an expert in water purification.  Toward the end of his life, owing to pressure from agents of the Ministry of Intelligence, he was dismissed from his work and had to resort to selling water purification equipment.  These agents had also been bringing pressure to bear on him to leave the city.

On 24 August 2013, Ataollah Rezvani disappeared on his way home.  His body was found in his car near the railway station on the outskirts of Bandar Abbas.  He was shot twice in the back of his head.  Existing evidence points to the possibility that his assailants had forced him to drive to that location.  The Coroner’s Office determined the cause of death to be “severe damage to the brain tissue, and its aftermath, as a result of the impact of a penetrating object (bullet)”.  He was laid to rest in the Baha’i cemetery of Bandar Abbas.
