Ataollah Haghani was born into a Baha’i family. He completed his high school education in Hamadan and then moved to Tehran where he opened a private business.
After the commencement of the Islamic Revolution, Ataollah Haghani began to receive anonymous threats on his life. Then on 1 June 1982, at 2 pm, a few men arrived at his home in search of him. The details of the events that transpired are not known; however, at 7 pm that night his body was discovered by his relatives. It showed signs of severe torture, stabbing and strangling. He was laid to rest in Kofrabad cemetery (Cemetery of infidels) the next day in accordance with Baha’i law.
