Ardeshir Akhtari

Born: 1937, Tabriz

Executed in Tehran on 28th September 1987

At the age of 15, Ardeshir Akhtari’s father passed away and he was forced to leave school and enter the workforce.  He found a job at an insurance company and worked there until 1981 when he was dismissed for his adherence to the Faith.  He was a member of the Local Spiritual Assembly[1] of Tehran, and also on the third National Spiritual Assembly[2] of Iran, which came into effect after the arrest and execution of the members of the second National Spiritual Assembly.

On 11 September 1984, Ardeshir Akhtari was arrested together with Amir-Hosein Naderi.  They were imprisoned at Evin prison.  Then on 28 September 1987, after three years of torturous imprisonment, they were executed.  The manner of their execution is not known.  Their families were not informed of their execution until a few days later when their belongings were returned to them.  Their bodies were not returned to their families; they were possibly buried by the authorities.
