A copy of the Bill concerning the prohibition from employment in the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran of individuals who are not followers of either Islam, Zoroastrianism, Judaism or Christianity, is issued for your information and required action.

This Bill was approved by the Islamic Revolution Council of Iran in its meeting of 29/08/1358 [20 November 1979], and was communicated through letter number 402-03-47- (12/09/58) [3 December 1979] from the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Islamic Republic (SMAJA) (Rules and Regulations), by the Acting Deputy of Personnel of NZAJA - Army Staff Colonel Azar Shahin

Bill of prohibition from employment in the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran for individuals who are not followers of Islam, Zoroastrianism, Judaism or Christianity

Single article - Employment of individuals who are not followers of Islam, Zoroastrianism, Judaism or Christianity in the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran is absolutely prohibited.

Addendum 1 - Individuals who are not followers of religions specified in this Bill, and who were employed by the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran prior to [enactment of] this Bill, will remain in service, provided that they be enlightened and accept Islám wholeheartedly; otherwise they are to be dismissed.

Addendum 2 - Retirees, servicemen, and pensioners belonging to the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran who are not followers of religions specified in this Bill will be debarred from receiving their pensions/salaries, unless they are enlightened and accept Islám wholeheartedly.

Addendum 3 - Decorated officers [unarmed officers] and non-military staff, retirees and their family members, as well as pensioners, are exempt from inclusion in Addendum 2, owing to their financial disadvantage.

Addendum 4 - Evidence of enlightenment and acceptance of Islam requires proof of one’s denouncement of [one’s] ideology and acceptance of the true religion of Islám via  submission of a written confirmation by a religious authority and source of veneration as well as publication of same in a widely circulated national newspaper.
